The initiative will see “low level offenders” paying a one off fee to use one of the programmes on the Intervention Hub as part of a Deferred Caution and Deferred Charge.

A needs assessment will be conducted with the offender and the victim will be spoken to find out what they need from the process. A contract is then drawn up and agreed with the offender, this may include work in the community, an offender pays scheme, a face to face apology or compensation.
They may also be signposted to someone for longer term help with mental health, debt or housing issues. If they complete the agreement the case is closed as a community resolution. If they don’t complete the agreement the file will be sent back to the investigating officer for them to continue with the original outcome, caution or charge.
The pilot commenced on 18th January 2021 and is anticipated to be completed within 12 months where a full evaluation will take place regarding its effectiveness.
