Des Fahy Takes on the Arch to Arc Triathlon to Support Spinal Cord Injury Charity
Red Snapper Group is proud to share the inspiring journey of Des Fahy, a remarkable individual who is set to take on the Arch to Arc triathlon as part of a dedicated six-person relay team. This challenging endeavor aims to raise crucial funds for the charity Aspire, which supports individuals dealing with Spinal Cord Injury. The Arch to Arc challenge is renowned as the world’s toughest triathlon, encompassing an 87-mile run from Marble Arch in London to Dover, a 21-mile swim across the English Channel to France, and a grueling 181-mile cycle from Calais to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Weather permitting, the team will embark on this extraordinary journey after 29th August, engaging in a relentless rotation of running, swimming, and cycling to reach their destination in Paris.
Des’s Motivation and Journey
Des Fahy shares his motivation: “Having completed the Ironman in Cork, Ireland, last year, I found longer events more challenging. I was thrilled when I learned about the Arch to Arc challenge due to my connection with Aspire.” Des’s extensive athletic background includes numerous triathlons, ultramarathons, marathons, and significant cycling feats. Notably, he swam the English Channel as part of an Aspire relay team in 2019 and attempted to swim around Jersey (41 miles) with his wife and friends.
Des’s commitment goes beyond personal accomplishments. He is an Aspire boat leader, supporting others in achieving remarkable feats. Des describes the Aspire swimming community as unparalleled, fostering lifelong friendships.
The Challenge Ahead
The Arch to Arc relay team consists of dedicated channel swimmers who share Des’s passion. While Des is excited to take on the first leg of the run from Marble Arch, he acknowledges that the 21-mile Channel swim could be the ultimate test for the team. “We are not wearing wetsuits, so hopefully the jellyfish will be kind to me,” he adds. The final discipline entails cycling 181 miles to Paris, a true test of endurance and determination.
Support and Fundraising
Des’s fundraising efforts are in full swing, with generous pledges from friends, family, and even Red Snapper Group, who has generously sponsored £1,000. All funds raised will directly benefit Aspire, a charity Des deeply believes in. He acknowledges the incredible work of the charity, emphasizing the need to support individuals with spinal cord injuries.
