PIP1 & PIP2 Accredited Investigation Staff Recruitment & Training
There is a nationwide shortage of PIP2 qualified investigation officers/detective available for agency worker assignments. UK policing has a much publicised shortage of permanently employed qualified detectives.
These market conditions make it almost impossible for employers to hire PIP2 qualified staff at any significant quantity.
The RSG Solution
The premise of the RSG solution is to create new capacity and not just rely on attracting candidates which are an exact match for the recruitment business need.
RSG attracts a suitable volume of candidates who are part qualified in terms of their criminal investigation development and training.
The customer organisation interviews the candidates and engages workers on both direct hire terms and as agency workers, subject to the business need.
RSG provides a pre-deployment and inter-deployment training and assessor package to fast track the newly employed staff through a learning pathway; supporting them throughout this learning pathway which would ensure they meet PIP1 and then PIP2 standards in terms of expertise and knowledge.
RSG provides a service in which we provide the candidate attraction resources, the full training resources, an assessment team to ensure all work book evidence standards are met, NIE examination registration coordination, examination revision support services and a mock examination to ensure we achieved high examination pass rates.
Target Candidate Groups and Talent Acquisition
We target three core candidate demographic types which do not meet the current candidate base line requirements for a ‘qualified’ investigation officer/detective business need namely;
- Serving investigation/police officers with no PIP qualification (serving officers who have not completed a work book which has been subject to an assessment/professional development)
- Serving investigation/police officers whom have attained the PIP1 accreditation
- Former and retired investigation/police officers whom have attained the PIP1 accreditation
RSG has the most developed law enforcement candidate attraction assets in the UK. Our media, training, specialist user communities and digital training and examination support products give us direct access to over 250,000 serving and former law enforcement professionals. We are able to utilise this direct reach, to further reach the entire market, to send developed employer branded work opportunities.
We work with our customer communications team, if requested to do so, to produce candidate attraction marketing messages to promote, what would be in effect, a condensed, on the job opportunity to be developed to be a full PIP2 qualified investigation professional. We use our candidate attraction assets and channels to promote this attractive message to the market to capture the correct volumes of candidates required to meet business needs.
Training and Assessor Service Feature
RSG has a market leading training division, Red Snapper Learning (RSL).
RSL provides the support, training and expertise to guide newly appointed investigation professionals from PIP1 through the PIP2 qualification process. RSL provides National Investigators Exam (NIE) support services and an assessor service feature to complete the PIP2 accreditation process. RSL has the track record and resource to deliver such a service for high volumes of delegates/learners.
RSG is partnered with Police Revision, an e-learning platform is specifically designed to help existing officers pass their NIE. Users receive full access to a range of e-learning resources; including practice exams, professional tutors, video guides and presentations. You can find out more about Police Revision below:
PIP2 National Curriculum
The national curriculum for the PIP2 qualification as laid out by the College of Policing includes the following subject areas:
- Public Protection
- Digital Policing
- Criminal Justice
- Conducting Investigations
To ensure the National Curriculum criteria is completed RSL provide the delivery of;
- The two-week Serious and Complex Crime Course (SACCC) incorporating the Investigative Interviewing of Victim & Witness Interviewing to Achieve Best Evidence (ABE) and Suspect Interviewing.
- The four-week Initial Crime Investigators Development Programme (ICIDP) incorporating any bespoke organisational needs.
Once each delegate has passed the NIE exam RSL will provide an assessment function to complete the programme to complete the process of producing fully qualified PIP2 investigation officers.
The assessor team will guide the delegate through the PIP2 process, ensuring that the assessment of the Trainee Detective Constable’s (TDC) is managed effectively from induction and first planning meeting through the setting of development objectives, assurance of knowledge and competency (via authentication, witness testimony and professional discussions), further reviews and checking of portfolio completion. We would suggest a reasonable time scale to complete this process would be six months.
